Well-established Fishery in East Sussex
Fishery closed from Sunday 9th July until 1st September due to high water temperatures
We have been welcoming fishermen to our beautiful lake for over 20 years
Is there anything better than fly fishing on a gorgeous sunny day? At Ashdown Forest Leisure (formerly Boringwheel Trout Fishery) in East Sussex, we are regularly stocked with fully finned, hard-fighting trout for our visitors to fish, enjoying far-reaching views over the farm at Ashdown Forest in the process.
You can find out more information about what activities we offer, how much we charge and even book your slot below.

You will find eight stages based around the island that you can fish from, or if you would prefer, our flat-bottomed boats are available free of charge, though we do advise that visitors bring their own life jackets to use these. Our lake is generally unmanned and payments should be placed in the honesty box located inside the fishing lodge. Payment is cash only and you can find further details here. Our authorised stewards often undertake spot checks to ensure that fishery rules are being obeyed. You can find these rules displayed outside our fishing lodge.
Boringwheel Lake covers an area of around four and a half acres and dates back to medieval times. It was originally dug to power a mill which bored the canons of the British Fleet. Subsequently, it was used to power a grain mill which still exists next door to us at Boringwheel Mill Farm, which has been undergoing renovation to get it working again.
